The Inaugural Haunted Forest Marathon

By Elaine Kish

On Sunday, October 31, 2021, Canal Fulton, Ohio will host the very first Haunted Forest Marathon sponsored by Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center. An event fundraiser for the Canal Boat, the St. Helena Heritage Park will serve as the start line, finish line and festival site for the event. Participants will have a choice of three individual races while ghosts and goblins appear along the way.

The 26.Boo Marathon will take you along the Ohio & Erie Canal on the Towpath Trail. There will be aid stations every 2 miles along the trail which consists of crushed limestone and sections of blacktop. This race will be a USATF Certified Course and a Boston Marathon Qualifier.

A Haunted Half Marathon will follow the same path as the full marathon for 13 miles. Both of these races will offer runners the opportunity to set a new personal record. The courses are flat; total elevation of the marathon is 59 feet and 40 feet for the half marathon.

The Frantic 5 Kilometer will start 15 minutes after the marathon and half marathon runners. These runners will pass through downtown Canal Fulton and finish on the Towpath Trail with candy stops on the way.

The Race Expo and packet pickup will be inside a family-friendly haunted house. Entry fees are $55 for the full marathon, $45 for the half marathon and $35 for the Frantic 5 Kilometer. Start times are 8:00 am for the marathon and half marathon runners and 8:15 am for the Frantic 5 Kilometer.

Although the course will be generously decorated in Halloween decor, there will not be anyone jumping out of the woods to scare runners. All participants will receive an event shirt, a finisher medal, and a post-race party with food, beer and live music. Additional race information and information regarding lodging, directions and parking is available at the website www.haunted262.com.

The Haunted Forest Marathon is produced by Run to You Racing. This event is a partnership with the Stark Board of Developmental Disabilities Great Pumpkin Race 4 Miler, which will be held in Canton, Ohio on October 30, 2021. Participants completing the Great Pumpkin Race and any of the Haunted Forest races will receive a special 9 Lives Challenge Medal.
