Winter Wonders Await in Vinton County

By Trish Mann

Winter has blown our way again, and chances are you are feeling cold and dreary. Living in the midwest can be challenging this time of the year, but with some planning and imagination, you will soon wonder why you waited so long to enjoy this season.

Southern Ohio’s lack of brutal cold and moderate snowfall make it the perfect place to shake off

the winter doldrums and head outside for some winter fun.

Vinton County prides itself on its vast parks and recreation system, especially during this time of the year. The rich history, stunning scenery, and vast wilderness provide many opportunities to experience the beauty of nature. When Mother Nature cooperates, Lake Rupert at the Wellston Wildlife Area offers ice fishing. At the same time, Lake Alma State Park and Lake Hope State Park feature hiking and equestrian trails.

When you feel the cold creeping in, head to the Lake Hope Lodge and warm up with a craft beer while relaxing and overlooking the lake. Since you are already there, why not try one of the delicious made-from-scratch offerings on their menu? You won’t be disappointed.

Perhaps being outdoors is not exactly your thing. Enjoy visiting quaint shops throughout the county, or stop by the Le Petit Chevalier Vineyards and Farm Winery and enjoy a glass of Chablis while the snow falls gently on the vineyard. Vinton County has you covered.

There are not enough hours in the day to enjoy everything this picturesque area of Ohio has to offer. So why not find a cabin or Airbnb to enjoy for a night or two? Prices are lower during this time of the year, making it more affordable.

Ravenwood Castle is an unforgettable destination with a medieval flair, perfect for a romantic getaway or time with family and friends. Where else can you spend a night in King Arthur’s Suite or the Duke’s Dungeon?

Have you dreamed of staying in a caboose? Fiddlestix Village offers unique lodging experiences. From their 1926 B&O Caboose cabin to the Salt and  Pepper Shaker Museum, Fiddlestix Village brings history to life. Close to many area activities; this will highlight your trip.

Getaway Cabins offers luxury cabins set in breathtaking settings for those looking for a little more indulgence. Each place is set apart from the others to allow for an intimate and memorable experience. You will want to return to this destination for years to come.

However you choose to spend these quieter months, don’t let the season pass without embracing all the beauty and exceptional experiences winter offers in Ohio’s Hocking Hills Region. Remember to set your GPS for Vinton County.
