A-HA Moment

By Courtney Novak

Usually someone who has lost weight has had one of those “a-ha” moments where they have finally decided to make a change in their life. I had a lot of those moments over the past five or so years, but never followed through with them. My “a-ha” moments ranged from my doctor advising that I had to lose at least 40 pounds before I could start a family, to my feet and ankles constantly throbbing in pain from all of the extra weight they had bearing down on them. I was 30 years old and I knew that I needed to take my doctor’s advice seriously or I might miss my chance altogether to start a family. I did not want that to happen.

It was December of 2013 and I was scrolling through my Facebook feed when I saw my friend’s post about Impulse Training and their “Biggest Winner Competition.” My friend already had huge success with Impulse and had great things to say about their programs. I thought it sounded like something I could accomplish, so I found a friend to be my partner for the next competition and we signed up immediately.

Something had finally clicked in my head and I told myself that I had to do this and stick with it. I completed the six-week event with great results and new friends. I have continued my membership at Impulse where I attend boot camps three to four times a week and impact training once a week. The trainers at Impulse are extremely friendly, helpful, encouraging, and motivational. As my weight crept up over the past few years, I was always very intimidated by gyms and worried that I would look or feel out of place. I have never felt that way at Impulse and I know this is a huge part of my success.

Although my workouts at Impulse have been very important, the changes to my diet have been even more important. My eating habits were nothing short of terrible prior to January. During the “Biggest Winner Competition” and beyond, the trainers have been very informative regarding nutrition and have offered numerous tips. Without question, changing my eating habits has been the most difficult part of my weight loss. Thankfully, my husband is a great cook and he also changed his diet alongside me. We have learned together how to eat food that tastes good and is healthy.

So far I have lost 65 pounds and I’m not stopping anytime soon. I am also down four pant sizes. I feel like a completely different person than I was nine months ago. Shopping is my absolute favorite thing to do and now I am actually enjoying it again. The best thing I can say about Impulse is that when I pull into the parking lot, I don’t feel like turning around and leaving. I look forward to my workouts and seeing what the trainers are going to throw at me next.
