A Storybook Christmas in Zanesville

A large historical building in Zanesville is lit up in multiple colors for the holidays

If you’re looking to experience the magic of the holidays, there’s no better place than Zanesville. A Storybook Christmas in Zanesville brings out the wonderment and joy of the season.

Downtown Festivities and Unique Displays

Throughout December, Zanesville transforms into a holiday escape. A 26-foot ornament tree, the only one in Ohio, stands proudly in front of the John McIntire Library. “This holiday season, you’ll step into a magical world where the childhood dream of strolling through downtown is brought to life,” says Kaitlynne Peters, Marketing Specialist for Visit Zanesville. Trolley rides, horse-drawn carriage tours, and a skating rink add to the festive charm on select nights.

Children can write letters to Santa and drop them in large red mailboxes around town, ensuring they reach the North Pole before Christmas. On Fridays and Saturdays, Santa and Mrs. Claus meet kids at Santa’s House, perfect for photos and admiring the elves’ beautiful decorations.

Snowman Scavenger Hunt and Elfie Selfies

No Winter Wonderland would be complete without snowmen. Various snowman displays bring joy throughout the town. “These snowmen add quite a bit of joy throughout our town during the holiday season,” says Peters. In the Storybook Christmas Booklet, you’ll find a scavenger hunt for each snowman. Fill it out and bring it to Visit Zanesville for a chance to win a holiday surprise! Keep an eye out for Elfie, and take a selfie with him each week as he highlights magical places around Zanesville.

Parades, Fun Runs, and Gingerbread Fun

Imagine reveling in a spectacular downtown parade or burning off holiday calories with a 5k & Fun run. The Gingerbread Family Fun Day at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds is another highlight. Make a weekend of it to enjoy all the activities and events.
