Paddle, Connect, and Celebrate

Lake Erie comes alive June 6-8, 2025, as paddlers unite for the unforgettable South Bass Island Kayak Rendezvous (SBIKR). This is the largest kayak gathering on the lake — and you don’t want to miss it.

South Bass Island Kayak Rendezvous Builds a Strong Tradition

What began 21 years ago with 25 kayakers has become a thriving tradition. Over 120 paddlers now gather yearly to share their passion. Founder Eric Slough shares, “The SBIKR is a place where strangers become friends with a commonality being the water.”

Eric adds, “Our goal has always been simple: to bring paddlers together, enjoy the islands, and create memories that last a lifetime.”

Explore Diverse Kayaking Opportunities Around South Bass Island

Accessible by ferry or kayak, South Bass Island offers exciting paddling for all skill levels. Surf waves, tackle open water crossings, or enjoy a scenic shoreline paddle. Each route provides adventure and a chance to grow your skills.

South Bass Island State Park: The Perfect Base for Kayakers

South Bass Island State Park serves as a home base. The event runs alongside the Historic Mills Race, meaning fewer powerboats and more room for kayakers. Choose to rough it at the campground or visit downtown Put-in-Bay for food and drinks.

Community Spirit Shines at SBIKR

Friday night starts with a potluck and keynote from Joe Motz, CEO of The Motz Group. His “Paddle for a Purpose” initiative raises mental health awareness and supports outdoor access for individuals with disabilities. His mission inspires and connects deeply with this event’s heart.

Giving Back and Learning Together on South Bass Island

SBIKR does more than bring paddlers together. It gives back. Over the years, participants have raised $5,000 plus for Great Lakes charities and local causes. This year, donations support The Bridge, a charity helping people with disabilities enjoy the outdoors.

The excitement continues with optional rolling clinics led by expert George Davis and American Canoe Association instructors. Learn new skills, meet passionate paddlers, and create memories on the water.

Join the South Bass Island Kayak Rendezvous Community

Despite its growth, SBIKR remains true to its roots. The focus stays on paddling, sharing meals, and forging connections. Every year, strangers leave as friends. Ready to join the fun? There’s no admission fee — just reserve your campsite and bring your kayak. Visit www.sbikayakrendezvous.com to plan your trip. Don’t miss your chance to be part of this incredible paddling tradition.
