There’s something magical about watching my two chocolate labs chase a tennis ball like it’s the greatest treasure on Earth. From sunup to sundown, they run, leap, and swim without slowing down. When we moved back to Ohio from North Carolina, I started searching for the best dog parks in Ohio—especially those with lakes where they could splash and play for hours.
These parks offer plenty of space, water features, and happy tails everywhere. Whether your dog is a swimmer, runner, or social butterfly, there’s a spot for them.
Bow Wow Beach – Stow, Ohio
Bow Wow Beach is a tail-wagging paradise if your dog lives for fetch and water. This 7.5-acre off-leash park features a massive 3-acre lake made just for dogs—no humans allowed in the water! My chocolate labs charge straight in and don’t come out until they’re soaked, muddy, and smiling.
You’ll find sandy shorelines, open grassy spots for running, and a safe, separate section for small pups. Clean-up stations are easy to spot, so it stays pleasant for everyone.
The park is open daily from 8 a.m. until sunset, March through early December. Just a heads-up—it closes Thursday mornings for maintenance from 8 to 11 a.m.
Otto Armleder Dog Park – Cincinnati, Ohio
Located on the east side of Cincinnati, Otto Armleder Dog Park is part of the Great Parks system and was their first off-leash dog park. Spanning 10 acres, it’s a favorite among local dog owners.
The park features separate play zones for large and small dogs, plus shaded spots and benches where you can relax while your pup runs wild. There are drinking fountains designed for dogs and even a canine shower to rinse off after a muddy romp.
Alum Creek Dog Park – Lewis Center, Ohio
Alum Creek Dog Park is a dream spot for active pups, especially those who love to swim. It features three fenced water access areas where dogs can splash and chase tennis balls through the waves for hours. My labs always leave soaked and happy.
There are separate fenced sections for small and large dogs, plus wooded trails nearby for leashed walks. The park even has lighting for after-dark visits, making it a great stop any time of day. It’s a top pick for dog lovers near Delaware, Ohio.
