The Massillon Recreation Center in Massillon, Ohio, is outstanding for community engagement and family activities.

Spanning 69,000 square feet, The Rec Center caters to aquatic lovers with an impressive Aquatics Center. This includes a two-lane lap pool, a lazy river, a versatile splash-down pool, a playful kiddie area, and two thrilling 19′ high water slides. For relaxation, the center also offers a dry sauna.

Fitness enthusiasts will love the comprehensive fitness and wellness program, which includes various classes, clinics, and workshops.

The fitness area has modern equipment like treadmills, bikes, steppers, and free weights. It’s an ideal spot for both experienced athletes and beginners.

The center also focuses on youth and homeschoolers, providing swim lessons and physical education activities. The gymnasium features two regulation-size basketball courts, convertible into volleyball courts. For those who enjoy indoor walking or running, there’s a track where twelve laps equal a mile.

Parents will find the Child Watch Room handy, allowing them to participate in activities while their children are cared for. Additionally, the center acts as a starting point for the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath, a popular trail for family outings.

The Recreation Center is not just for fitness; it’s a community gathering place. It offers spaces for events like “All Night” or “Lock-in” gatherings and has meeting rooms for up to 200 people, with outside catering allowed.

Rec Center Reaches into the Community

Additional facilities managed by the Massillon Parks and Recreation Department include an ice skating rink at Wampler Park, an off-leash dog park at Furnas Park, and various parks with family amenities.

Adding to the range of activities at the Massillon Recreation Center, the Genshaft Softball Complex in Stark County is an excellent spot for adult softball, boasting features like high fences, an LED scoreboard, and modern facilities since its 2020 renovation. The center hosts Co-ed and Women’s volleyball leagues for volleyball enthusiasts, complete with regular season matches and a single elimination tournament.

Exciting programs at the Massillon Recreation Center include:

  • VITA Tax Assistance Program:** Free tax preparation and e-filing by IRS-trained volunteers.
  • New Youth Volleyball League:** A league for 4th to 6th graders to learn volleyball in a fun setting.
  • Massillon Ice Skating Rink:** Available until March 3, 2024, offering free skate rentals for a great outdoor experience.
  • Swim Lessons:** Starting February 12, 2024, for various ages and levels, including a special preschool session. Registration ends on February 9th, 2024.
  • Trivia Night:** Scheduled for February 16th, 2024, this event offers games, prizes, and refreshments.
  • New Fitness Class – Pilates Express:** A 35-minute Mat Pilates class, perfect for a midday fitness break.
