Ohio Pirate Con Sails into Fremont This July

Ohio Pirate Con sets sail for its inaugural voyage July 26-27, 2025, at the Sandusky County Fairgrounds in Fremont. This swashbuckling new adventure brings high-seas fun for all ages along the scenic Sandusky River.

From the moment pirates capture the mayor and seize the city keys, excitement takes over the town. Attendees are encouraged to dress in full pirate garb and jump into the action.

Battles, Blasts & Hollywood Flair

According to Beth Turner, who co-produces the event with her husband Bob (a.k.a. Crazy Bob), the weekend kicks off with a bang:

“We’re actually starting off the event Saturday morning with the pirates capturing Mayor Danny Sanchez. After a heated battle, the mayor gives up the key to the city to the pirates for the weekend!”

And that’s just the beginning.

Actor Martin Klebba, best known as Marty in four Pirates of the Caribbean films, will appear on both days. Turner adds,
“Our BIGGEST announcement to date is that we have contracted Martin Klebba to join us as a guest celebrity for the weekend.”

The Michigan-based Ring of Steel stunt troupe brings at least 18 pirates, staging sword fights, whip shows, fire breathing, and more. Bob Gillmor of Gillmor Ordnance will fire real cannons on the hour and sell coins forged in his Old Fort foundry.

Expect pirates at every turn—and maybe even Pirate Elvis or Wynona Judd sightings—at the Nautical Bazaar, open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Fremont Becomes Port Fremont

When the bazaar closes, the fun continues across Fremont. There’s something for every buccaneer:

  • Pirate Pub Crawl to seven sponsored taverns, with transportation included
  • Captain’s Feast at the Jewel Ballroom
  • Treasure Quest with prizes, including 20 business-sponsored treasure chests
  • Pirate Kayaking Adventure Trips will be available
  • Pirate Invasion Race Night at Fremont Speedway with discounted tickets
  • Pirate Boat & Float Parade at 10 a.m. Sunday at Rodger Young Park
  • Live concert by family rock band The A.K. Affair—they’ll be decked out in pirate gear, singing rock and roll favorites, and a few sea shanties at Fremont’s new amphitheater.

Beth Turner hints, “There is also rumor… we may even have a Pirate Elvis and Wynona Judd make an appearance at the Bazaar over the weekend.”
