From Riverfront Revelry to Cultural Celebration: Cincinnati & Dayton’s Oktoberfests
When September rolls around, Ohio’s southwest corner comes alive with steins, sausages, and the sounds of polka. Two standout Oktoberfests give festival lovers a chance to raise a glass and soak in German traditions—Cincinnati’s Oktoberfest Zinzinnati and the Dayton Art Institute Oktoberfest.
Cincinnati Oktoberfest Zinzinnati
Dates: September 18–21, 2025
As the largest Oktoberfest in the United States, Cincinnati’s festival draws nearly half a million visitors each year. Stretching along the downtown riverfront, it’s a lively, four-day celebration packed with food, fun, and entertainment.
More than 200 booths serve bratwurst, schnitzel, strudel, and local craft beers. The event is as famous for its quirky contests as it is for its food. Don’t miss the Running of the Wieners dachshund race, stein-holding competitions, and the world’s largest chicken dance. With multiple music stages, free admission, and plenty of family-friendly food, Zinzinnati makes for an unforgettable weekend in the Queen City.

Dayton Art Institute Oktoberfest
Dates: September 26–28, 2025
A week later, the spotlight shifts north to Dayton. The Dayton Art Institute’s Oktoberfest is a cherished community tradition that supports the museum while offering a relaxed, cultural spin on the German celebration.
Held on the museum grounds, this event features international foods, craft beers, wines, and artisan vendors. The kickoff “Lederhosen Lunch” sets the tone, and the festival continues with live entertainment, stein-holding contests, and plenty of family activities. Sunday is especially welcoming for families, with children’s programming and a festive, low-key atmosphere that makes the event both fun and meaningful.
Two Oktoberfests, Two Styles
Cincinnati and Dayton may celebrate Oktoberfest in different ways, but both capture the spirit of the season. Cincinnati offers unmatched scale and spectacle, while Dayton blends tradition with cultural enrichment. Together, they create the perfect reason to plan a late-September road trip through southwest Ohio.
