Six Ohio Oktoberfests Worth a Road Trip This Fall

Summer is winding down. That means one thing in Ohio. Oktoberfest season is here.

You don’t need a plane ticket to Munich. Ohio has beer gardens, brats, and polka bands in almost every corner of the state. Grab your lederhosen. Here are six Oktoberfests worth the drive this September.

Oktoberfest Zinzinnati — Cincinnati

When: September 17–20

This is the big one. It’s the largest Oktoberfest in the country. Last year, over 800,000 people showed up along the riverfront. It’s free to attend, and this year marks 50 years running. Expect a giant tent, live bands, and enough bratwurst to feed a small army.

Columbus Oktoberfest — Columbus

When: September 11–13

Held at the Ohio Expo Center, this fest runs in three huge covered pavilions. That means rain or shine, the party goes on. Two stages keep the polka dancing going all weekend.

Cleveland Oktoberfest — Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds

When: September 4–7 and September 11–12

This one spans two weekends, so you get two chances to go. Look for wiener dog races, a giant Glockenspiel, and food from local favorites like Frank’s Bratwurst.

Dayton Art Institute Oktoberfest — Dayton

When: September 25–27

This is southwest Ohio’s longest-running Oktoberfest. It’s also the museum’s biggest fundraiser of the year. New this year is an official stein-holding contest. Think you can hold a full beer stein at arm’s length the longest? Sign up and find out.

Kent Oktoberfest — Portage County

When: September 11–13

Hosted by the German Family Society, this smaller-town version brings the same food and music without the big-city crowds. A great pick if you want Oktoberfest with a little more elbow room.

Springboro & Vandalia Oktoberfests — Southwest Ohio

When: September 11–12 (both towns)

Two small-town celebrations happening the same weekend. Perfect for a day-trip loop if you’re based near Dayton. Local food trucks, beer tents, and family-friendly fun all around.

Ohio Oktoberfests to Plan Your Weekends Around

Most of these fall on the same two weekends in September, so pick your region and make a day of it. Pair your visit with a stop at a nearby small-town diner or a local bed and breakfast. That’s what Weekend Vibes is all about.

Prost, Ohio. See you at the beer garden.
