This Cuisine has been provided by our friends at Visit Wheeling!
In early 2006, proprietor Dominick Paul Cerrone had an empty building and a vision. By April 2006, he had filled Wheeling’s revered L.S. Good Mansion with an unparalleled selection of wines that the city had never seen before. For the first time, a whole world of wine came to Wheeling, from Barolo to Bonarda, Muscadet to Malbec. The store’s impressive selection of European holdings in particular soon drew the attention of wine lovers throughout the entire Pittsburgh market and to this day attracts thousands of customers a year from Wheeling and well beyond.
The proprietor’s love of wine comes from an Italian upbringing – having wine on the table every week – and the conviction that good wine should be a commodity, not a luxury. At Good Mansion Wines, we firmly believe that there is a wine for every occasion, and that the best of those is at the table with food. An extensive Italian selection, the largest in the tri state area, offers wines from 18 of the Italian regions that beckon back to the Sunday dinner table of Dominick’s childhood days. Extensive German, French, and Spanish selections fill out the large “Old World” offerings. There is also a large “New World” selection that offers all of the expected wines. A comprehensive list of West Virginia wines from almost a dozen wineries completes the “New World” offerings.
The magic of Good Mansion Wines is not only in our wine, but also the interior of the stately L.S. Good Mansion. The shop quickly became a tourist destination for visitors of the city, an opportunity to browse through one of the region’s most comprehensive list of wines amid the splendors of Wheeling entrepreneur Lee Samuel Good’s turn-of-the-century homestead.
The key to Good Mansion Wines is our attention to service and variety. Extensive efforts are made to seek out the largest variety of wine, including wines never previously offered to West Virginia.
In 2014, based on the same philosophy, Good Mansion Wines opened a charcuterie in the back of the shop, complete with over 70 imported cheeses and salumi. That same year, it also ventured into the direct import of top of the shelf Italian food products that are rarely available in America, including: a large selection of highly internationally awarded olive oils; traditional balsamic vinegar from Modena; regional pastas including from Campofilone, Gragnano and more; panettone and pandoro; condiments; truffled products as well as directly imported truffles; rice and polenta; tomato products; fruit jams and pulps; and condiments such as pesto alla genovese, pesto alla trapanese, bagna cauda, bottarga and more.
In the fall of 2015, Good Mansion Wines introduced homemade French desserts and sandwiches. The French desserts are made in house by our Parisian patissier. The sandwiches are inspired by Italian, French and Spanish sandwiches featuring our fresh baguettes made daily and our imported products. Sandwiches are available Monday to Saturdays 11 am to 2 pm, and they are available for take out or for eating on site.
