Mill Street Diner in Sugarcreek, Ohio: Homemade Diner Favorites

Mill Street Diner

My husband and I had heard how good the food was at Mill Street Diner in Sugarcreek, Ohio, so we finally decided to see for ourselves. We headed there for breakfast one weekend, and boy, are we glad we did.

As soon as we walked in, I could see this wasn’t just another diner. The walls tell a little of Sugarcreek’s story, with local photos, Swiss heritage, and plenty of Garaway Pirates memorabilia. You find yourself looking around, admiring while waiting for your food.

But let’s be honest, we came for breakfast, and that turned out to be the best part.

Starting the Day with Biscuits and Gravy

I ordered the biscuits and gravy with fresh-cut home fries. The biscuits were baked perfectly, then smothered in a smooth sausage gravy that had plenty of flavor. On the side were hand-sliced breakfast potatoes that completed the meal.

My husband chose the country fried steak with eggs and home fries. Of course, his steak came covered in that same gravy. We both had plenty on our plates, but it didn’t take long to understand why we had heard so many good things about this place.

Another bonus is that Mill Street Diner serves breakfast all day. So, if you’re not an early riser, you can still get your eggs, biscuits, or country fried steak later in the day.

It’s the Homemade Touches That Stand Out

What really impressed us about the diner was learning how much they make themselves. Even their ranch dressing and hot sauce come from their own recipes.

We tried the hot sauce and liked it enough to buy a bottle to take home. I always think that’s a good sign. When something you try at a restaurant ends up going home with you, they are doing something right.

Those homemade touches carry over into the rest of the menu. If breakfast isn’t what you’re craving, there are hand-pressed burgers, fresh-cut fries, sandwiches, soups, and salads. From the size of the burgers we saw, you definitely won’t have trouble finding something filling for lunch.

Be sure to ask about the specials, too. They change, so it’s worth finding out what’s being served when you visit.

Make Mill Street Diner Part of Your Day

Part of what we enjoyed was simply being there. Mill Street Diner fits Sugarcreek, from the local sports memorabilia to photos celebrating the area’s Swiss roots. It has the comfortable feel of a local diner where the community is part of the experience.

Located at the corner of Routes 39 and 93, it’s an easy stop during a day in Sugarcreek or Ohio’s Amish Country. The diner is open daily until 2 p.m., giving you plenty of time to stop for breakfast or lunch.

Breakfast certainly gave us a reason to return to Mill Street Diner in Sugarcreek, Ohio. But after seeing those burgers and fresh-cut fries, I already know what I want to try next.
