a wooden spoon full of peanut butter over top of an open jar of peanut butter for a pie recipe

This decadent Peanut Butter Pie dessert comes to us courtesy of Walnut Creek Cheese & Market

I have a serious love for all things peanut butter, and this Peanut Butter Pie recipe is an absolute dream come true! Let me take you on a little journey through making this delicious dessert, step by step. Trust me, it’s worth every bite.

Let’s Gather the Ingredients

Making the Pastry Crust:

  • 2 3/4 Cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 3 Tbsp Sugar
  • 1 Egg
  • 4 Tbsp Ice Water
  • 3/4 tsp Sea Salt
  • 1 Cup Shortening
  • 1 tsp Vinegar

Adding the Peanut Butter Crumbs:

  • 3 Cups Powdered Sugar
  • 1 1/2 Cups Creamy Peanut Butter

For the Vanilla Pie Filling:

  • 1 1/3 Cups Instant Vanilla Pudding Mix
  • 4 Cups Cold Milk

Topping:

  • 1 – 8 oz tub Whipped Topping

Making this Perfect Peanut Butter Pie

Pastry Crust:

  1. Start by combining the flour, salt, and sugar in a big bowl.
  2. Then, cut the shortening into the flour until you have pea-sized crumbs. This part is so satisfying—I love seeing the dough come together!
  3. Whisk the egg, vinegar, and ice water in a separate bowl. Then, pour this mixture into the crumbs and gently mix until the dough starts to form. Remember, don’t knead it!
  4. Once your dough is ready, flatten it into a disk and pop it in the fridge for about 30 minutes. This gives you enough time to get excited about what’s coming next.
  5. Preheat your oven to 400°F. Roll out the chilled dough into a circle about 1/8 inch thick and 11 inches in diameter.
  6. Press the dough into a 9-inch pie pan and trim the edges to make it look nice and neat. Don’t forget to poke holes all around the inside of the crust with a fork—this helps it bake evenly.
  7. Bake the crust for 20-25 minutes until it turns a beautiful light golden brown. Your kitchen will smell amazing!

* I must admit that I sometimes reach for the rolled pie crust in the can in the refrigerated section at my local grocery store. It makes the recipe easy peasy when short on time.

Peanut Butter Crumbs:

  1. Grab a fork and mix the powdered sugar and peanut butter until you get fine crumbs. This part is fun—it’s like playing with delicious sand!
  2. You can store the crumbs in the fridge or freezer, but honestly, you’ll probably want to eat them right away.

Vanilla Pie Filling:

  1. Mix the vanilla pudding and cold milk for about 3 minutes. Let the pudding thicken for a few minutes, and then pop it in the fridge to chill.

Putting the Peanut Butter Pie Together

  1. Now for the fun part! Mix 1 1/2 cups of those peanut butter crumbs on the baked pie crust.
  2. Pour the chilled pudding on top, then sprinkle on another 1 cup of peanut butter crumbs. Finally, top the whole thing with whipped topping.
  3. Sprinkle the rest of the peanut butter crumbs on top. Doesn’t it look amazing?
  4. Chill the pie until you’re ready to serve. Trust me, the wait is worth it!

This Peanut Butter Pie recipe is perfect for peanut butter lovers like me. It’s creamy, crumbly, and oh-so-satisfying. I hope you enjoy making and eating it as much as I do!
