Trains, Ghost Stories, and Lantern Light
Tuscarawas County, Ohio, comes alive this fall with steam engines, haunted tales, and lantern-lit adventures that blend history with excitement. Each weekend offers something new and exciting for families, history lovers, and thrill seekers.
Tuscarawas County Fall Events Begin at Schoenbrunn Village
Kick things off September 12–13 at Schoenbrunn Village in New Philadelphia during the Fall Lantern Tours from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. Follow a glowing path through this 18th-century Moravian settlement and hear stories of early frontier life as the nation stood on the edge of revolution. Costumed guides share daily life in one of Ohio’s first communities. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance at ohiohistorystore.com.

Steam Power and Classic Fun at the Roundhouse
Then on September 26 and 27, head to the Age of Steam Roundhouse Museum for Trains, Tractors & Traditions. This free event runs from 9:30 am to 4 pm and features vintage baseball games, steaming locomotives, and antique tractors in action. Enjoy hot dogs, listen to music from a barbershop quartet, and ride the museum’s steam train through the grounds. It’s a hands-on celebration of classic Americana.
Evening Ghost Stories Light Up Tuscarawas County Fall Events
As October arrives, the stories get darker. Beginning October 10, Evening Lantern Tours at the Age of Steam Roundhouse take you through twilight shadows and into the world of ghostly legends and railroad lore. Tours run select nights through November 1 and last 90 minutes. Leave the flashlights behind—these tales are told by lantern light only.
Ghostly Tales and Candlelit Dinners in Zoar
That same weekend, Historic Zoar opens its gates for Lantern Ghost Tours on October 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25, 31, and November 1. Ghosts of Zoar share haunted tales as you move through the historic village. Add a candlelit dinner at the Canal Tavern for an eerie and delicious evening.

Reeves Museum Offers a Chilling Finale
Close out the season on October 17 and 18 with Ghost Tours at the Reeves Museum in Dover. Learn about strange Victorian funeral customs and unexplained events inside the historic home. Regular tours run from 7 to 10 pm, or choose a midnight tour, which includes a souvenir T-shirt.
