A summer trip to the Allegheny National Forest region promises adventure, stunning scenery, and exciting events for all interests. Fishing, music, art, and festivals fill the season with unforgettable experiences in this breathtaking region.

Kick Off Summer in the Allegheny National Forest with Fishing Events

Kicking off the season, the Kinzua Cup Walleye Tournament on May 17-18 brings skilled anglers to Willow Creek Sportsman’s Club. Big plans for this year’s event make it the perfect chance to test fishing skills or watch top competitors in action. Just days later, from May 22-24, legendary angler Joe Humphreys teaches the Kinzua Fly Fishing Two-Day School. Limited to 30 participants, this hands-on class at UPB in Bradford helps fishermen master their craft in a beautiful setting.

Arts, Music, and Festivals Bring Summer to Life

As June rolls in, art lovers can’t miss Art in the Wilds, which will take place June 28-29 in Evergreen Park, Kane. This outdoor, juried fine arts show features talented artists displaying and selling original work. Moving through the shaded park, surrounded by creativity, makes for a relaxing and inspiring weekend.

Music fans should mark July 12 for Squatchfest, a family-friendly festival at Kane Family Drive-In. The gates open in the afternoon, and music fills the summer air until late at night. Great bands, good food, and an energetic crowd make this a can’t-miss event.

Celebrate Culture and Tradition in August

In August, the Mount Jewett Swedish Festival takes center stage from August 8-10. This annual event celebrates the town’s Swedish heritage with a traditional Maypole Dance, Swedish Smorgasbord, folk bands, and fireworks. Flavorful food, exciting contests, and festive parades create a weekend full of tradition and community spirit.

The fun continues August 10-16 at the McKean County Fair in Smethport. Classic fair attractions, such as livestock shows, carnival rides, fair food, and live entertainment, bring families together for a week of summer traditions. Then, to close the season, the Sunflower Festival at Wilds Sonshine Factory in Kane runs August 22-24. Fields of sunflowers create a picture-perfect setting for live music, local vendors, and delicious sunflower-themed treats.
