Ohio Native Plant Sale 2026: Shop Local, Grow Wild

Butterfly week, a native plant in Ohio plays host to a bumble bee

The Wilderness Center Annual Plant Sale in Wilmont

Spring is coming. And if you want your yard to buzz with bees, flutter with butterflies, and sing with birds — native plants are the place to start. The Wilderness Center (TWC) in Wilmot, Ohio, makes it easy. Their annual Native Plant Sale gives you access to a large selection of plants that truly belong in Ohio — popular picks and hard-to-find species alike.

Why Native Plants Matter for Ohio Wildlife

Native plants have grown in Ohio for thousands of years. Over that time, they built deep connections with local wildlife. Monarch butterflies depend on milkweed. Songbirds need insects — and most insects can only survive on the plants they evolved with. When you plant native, you are not just adding color to your yard. You are rebuilding habitat.

Beyond wildlife, native plants are simply easier to grow. They are built for Ohio’s heat, cold, and rainfall. Once established, they need very little water or care. Their deep roots also filter rainwater and hold soil in place — which means cleaner local streams and less runoff for all of us.
