Experience the Sights and Sounds of The Season in Summit County
The holidays have a way of slowing us down, pulling us closer to family and friends, and reminding us that the best gifts are the moments we share. The holiday magic in Akron and surrounding Summit County comes alive with experiences that bring people together—whether it’s under glowing lanterns, aboard a Christmas train, or on an ice rink filled with laughter.
Wild Lights at the Akron Zoo

One of my family’s favorites is the Akron Zoo. As the sun sets, the grounds become a glowing wonderland with more than a million lights. Animated displays line the paths, trees shimmer in every color, and even the animal habitats shine with a holiday glow. Hot cocoa chases away the chill as the kids call out their favorite light scene, turning an ordinary evening into one filled with wonder. Evenings at the zoo invite us to slow down and enjoy the holiday together.
Deck the Hall at Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens
From the zoo, holiday cheer continues at the historic Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens. Each year, the estate is dressed in breathtaking style, with the grand manor glowing inside and out. Over a million lights drape the gardens, while the decorated rooms inside tell stories of holidays past. Outside, Gingerbread Land offers a playful escape for kids and the young at heart. Take a stroll through this magical place and create memories to share long after the season ends.

North Pole Adventure on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad
If you’re looking for some Christmas magic, the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad delivers it with the North Pole Adventure. Families board the train, many in Christmas pajamas, and settle in for a magical ride. Carols fill the air, cookies are passed around, and little ones press their noses to the windows in search of Santa’s village. The excitement builds until Santa himself appears, and the children squeal with delight.
Holiday Lantern Tours at Hale Farm & Village
For those who prefer tradition wrapped in history, Hale Farm & Village offers something special. December evenings here flicker with lantern light as guides lead visitors through tales of holiday customs from centuries past. Hearths glow, carolers stroll by, and the quiet pace of the village makes it easy to imagine what celebrating the season once felt like. It’s both a history lesson and a reminder of the timeless joy of gathering together.
WinterBlast at Lock 3 in Downtown Akron
And then, downtown Akron brings the energy back up with WinterBlast at Lock 3. The city’s center turns into a holiday playground with ice skating, ice bumper cars, and cozy fire pits for sharing stories over warm drinks. Private igloos are also available to rent for a festive escape. With live music, food vendors, and twinkling lights overhead, it’s a place where laughter fills the air.

Memories of Holiday Magic in Akron
Each of these Akron holiday traditions offers its own sparkle, but what makes them unforgettable is who you share them with. Walking hand in hand through Stan Hywet’s gardens, hearing your child gasp when Santa steps onto the train, or laughing together as you try to keep your balance on the ice—those are the moments that stay with us.
This year, let Akron and Summit County be the backdrop for your holiday season. Because no matter where you go, the holidays shine brighter when celebrated together. Visit the Akron Summit Convention & Visitors Bureau for more information.
