Just across the bridge is Coshocton’s Historic Downtown District. Main Street boasts several locally-owned gift shops, boutiques, specialty stores and restaurants. In the evenings, the Coshocton County Courthouse features a light display set to music. Now in its second season, the show continues to gain popularity and is sure to become a holiday tradition.

Candlelighting Days – A Holiday Tradition

For more than 50 years, Candlelighting Days has marked the start of the holiday season. “The village is beautifully decorated for the holidays with fresh greenery and trees,” said Roscoe Village Director Casey Brown. It’s the perfect Hallmark-movie setting to create new holiday memories.

The days are filled with holiday shopping and special activities that may include carolers, roasted chestnuts, crafts for kids, and visits with Santa, followed by the Christmas Candelighting Ceremony, where guests gather at the base of the village Christmas tree with friends old and new to enjoy cider and cookies, hear stories, sing carols, and see the 30-foot tree illuminated. The passing of the flame from one person to another is magical. As the candlelight illuminates the darkness, so does the sound of Silent Night, which is sung throughout the crowd.
