Recognized for years as one of the nation’s largest light shows, Oglebay Resort & Conference Center in Wheeling, West Virginia comes alive again at their annual Winter Festival of Lights starting November 11, 2016. Thousands of glittering lights will illuminate the night through January 1, 2017. Whether an annual outing for the family or the start of a new tradition, the show offers fun for all ages. “Guests will enjoy over 80 larger-than-life still and animated light displays,” said Steve Hilliard, Wheeling Park Commission President & CEO. “From The Twelve Days of Christmas to the animated LED Light Tunnel, this outing is sure to bring joy, laughter and a bit of magic to your holiday.”
In addition to Oglebay’s multiple shops located throughout the park, the new Christmas at
Crispin area offers one-of-a-kind decorations, ornaments, and holiday collectibles. Additionally, from November 25 to December 23, 2016, visitors can choose the perfect Christmas tree. The Boy Scouts of America will sell freshly-cut Christmas trees in the parking lot of the Christmas at Crispin area. Additionally, the holiday-themed train and hay wagons will offer rides daily, weather permitting, as well as the fun of a holiday straw maze.

The Pine Room at Oglebay is transformed into a holiday wonderland of trees, wreaths, centerpieces and swags, all decorated by area designers and available for purchase. Items will be displayed from November 11 through November 19, 2016. Along those same lines, the Pine Room will house a collection of trees each representing a different culture or ethnic background from December 1 through December 31, 2016. In the Club Room there will be gingerbread house displays, winter family photo-ops, caroling and entertainment, together with holiday snacks and treats available for purchase from November 11, 2016 through January 1, 2017.

Started in 1985, the Winter Festival of Lights covers more than 300 acres over a six-mile drive throughout the resort. It has been listed as one of the 10 Best Christmas Light Displays in the US according to AOL Travel. Featured on the American Bus Association’s list of Top International Events, it was named as a top 100 event by Eventcrazy.com and was recently listed as one of the top 200 events in the country by Discover America. Viewable Sunday through Thursday until 10 pm and Friday and Saturday until 11 pm, a per car donation is requested which is valid for the entire festival season. Trolley tours are also offered several times each night starting from Wilson Lodge. Overnight packages and a variety of dining options during the Festival of Lights are available at Wilson Lodge.
