“The goal of the Roots & Routes regional Agritourism Trail is to promote local agriculture by connecting visitors with farms, markets, and related businesses in the area,” said Brenda Mobley, Executive Director—Ripley Convention & Visitor Bureau. “It aims to enhance economic opportunities for farmers and rural communities, while providing educational and fun recreational experiences and memories for tourists.”

The trail showcases 21 locations, each with its own unique schedule and operating hours. Along the way, you’ll get caught up in fall’s unfolding bounty—roadside farm stands offering plants, fresh produce, baked goods, and handmade crafts.
Bring the family and make it an adventure. “You may see cattle, goats, sheep, and maybe a peacock or two,” said Mobley.

For something truly fun and memorable, stop at Moonraker Alpaca Farm in Cottageville. Alpacas are soft, silly, and endearing. Here, you can get up close—and maybe even take home a warm pair of alpaca socks, perfect for a crisp fall evening.
Sip and Slow Down at Chestnut Ridge Winery
The trail also offers opportunities to slow down. At Chestnut Ridge Winery in Spencer, appreciate the autumn vistas while enjoying wine and gourmet foods. If you’re feeling active, nearby hiking and biking trails offer the perfect balance before indulging.
A Hidden Gem for Nature Lovers
Nature lovers will enjoy the Wild Light Garden Collective in Spencer. Wander the Phil Holcomb Botanical Walking Trail, then discover a hidden gem—the Little Free Greenhouse. Its simple mantra—take a plant, leave a plant—invites visitors to carry a piece of West Virginia home, whether through herb starters or vegetable plants.
Step Back in Time at the WV Farm Museum
History has its place, too. The West Virginia Farm Museum in Point Pleasant offers a step back in time, with 30 historical buildings filled with artifacts that tell the story of rural life through the years.
