Trails, Tales & Treasures in Marion County

Spring in Marion County feels like an open invitation—to slow down, step outside, and discover something new. In 2026, that sense of exploration expands with the launch of America 250–Marion’s Trails, Tales & Treasures. This yearlong digital experience is designed to celebrate Marion County’s role in America’s story.

Built for curious travelers and locals alike, Trails, Tales & Treasures uses a free app and optional printed guides to turn everyday exploring into a fun, interactive adventure.

A New Way to Explore Marion County

The Trails, Tales & Treasures program introduces a brand-new themed trail every month in 2026. Each trail includes ten curated stops across Marion County. As participants visit locations, they unlock historical stories, unique facts, and short quiz challenges.

Every completed quiz earns entries into prize raffles, adding a playful incentive to learn more about the people, places, and moments that shaped the community. It’s part history lesson, part scavenger hunt, and completely self-paced.

Spring Trails and Outdoor Escapes

Spring is the perfect season to start exploring Marion County’s outdoor spaces. The Marion Tallgrass Trail stretches 12.4 miles through peaceful, wooded scenery ideal for walking, running, or cycling. The trail is handicap accessible and reaches the Hardin County line. Along the way, visitors can spot wildlife, enjoy Foundation Lake by kayak or canoe. In addition, they can join free programs led by the County Naturalist.

For a different kind of adventure, Quarry Park features Wicked Walt’s Mountain Bike Trail, a 4.3-mile singletrack route with rolling terrain and wooded views. Nature lovers can also explore the Big Island Wildlife Area, where wetlands and grasslands attract bald eagles, herons, shorebirds, and even trumpeter swans.

Art, History, and Local Stories

Downtown Marion adds color and creativity with The Cardinal Project, a public art initiative featuring 17 five-foot-tall cardinal statues. Created by 13 local artists, each sculpture reflects Marion’s history, landmarks, first responders, and artistic spirit—honoring Ohio as the 17th state in the Union.

This spring, Marion County becomes more than a destination—it becomes an experience. Whether you’re following a trail, discovering public art, or uncovering local history, every stop tells a story. Start planning your visit and explore more things to do in Marion County at www.visitmarionohio.com.
