The Christmas season is a time of joy and goodwill, and there is no better place to find the holiday spirit than downtown Vermilion. Join in on the festivities and welcome the season with time-honored traditions focusing on community and family.
Friday, December 2, beginning at 5 pm, Light Up Vermilion welcomes the holidays in timeless fashion as downtown transforms for Christmas.
Delightful window displays harken back to a bygone era as string lights, evergreens, and holiday decorations brighten the night. If you are feeling a little chilly, grab a cone of roasted chestnuts and hot chocolate to warm you up.
No holiday celebration is complete without a Christmas tree. Santa will arrive at 6 pm to help kick off the tree lighting festivities. Yes, the big guy in red will be here, straight from the North Pole, for all the fun.
The magnificent tree in the center of downtown will be ablaze in dazzling lights, and atop the tree will be a new star to honor the Yuletide season.
There is fun for the whole family. A window display scavenger hunt with prizes will entertain the kids, and the rest of the family will enjoy shopping and dining at the array of exciting establishments in Vermilion.
Don’t forget to bring those letters to Santa. Main Street Vermilion has a special Santa Mailbox with a direct line to the North Pole. On Christmas Eve, they take the letters to the post office for special delivery to Santa Claus before he embarks on his annual trip worldwide.
“There’s still a lot of magic in Christmas, and you’ll feel it in this small-town celebration,” said Marilou Suszko.
The year is coming to a close, and it is easy to let the holidays fly by. Don’t let that happen. Set aside time to celebrate the season with family and friends at Light Up Vermilion and enjoy all the beauty and warmth of Christmas with the inviting town of Vermilion.
Main Street Vermilion hosts activities and events throughout the year, celebrating this beautiful lakeside community, and is a 501 (C) 3 nonprofit. They are dedicated to revitalization, historic preservation, economic development, tourism, and beautification of the downtown area.
