Spring invites movement: new energy, new adventures, and a fresh urge to get going. In Miami County, Ohio, that momentum comes to life through unforgettable experiences on wheels, water, rail, and in the open sky. From canal boats to biplanes, locomotives to legendary Mustangs, this region is rich with transportation history that’s anything but still.
“Few places bring together so many different modes of transportation in such an authentic, accessible way,” said Leiann Stewart, Executive Director at Miami County Visitors & Convention Bureau. “It’s this rare blend of diversity and preservation that makes Miami County’s connection to transportation truly special and historically significant.”
Bradford Ohio Railroad Museum
Begin in Bradford, where the railroad shaped an entire community. The town earned its “railroad town” identity in 1857, when the first train reached the county line and changed the region’s future. Today, the museum’s three levels showcase artifacts such as railroad china, watches, and interactive telegraph displays. Children’s exhibits make it family-friendly, while the restored Pennsylvania Railroad BF Interlocking Tower offers a rare look at the mechanics behind early rail travel.

Johnston Farm & Indian Agency
Travel even further back in time at this landmark celebrating more than 2,000 years of Ohio history. Step aboard The General Harrison, a 70-foot, mule-drawn canal boat that glides along the Miami and Erie Canal. Costumed interpreters share stories that bring frontier life and canal-era commerce to life, while tours of John Johnston’s historic home and museum add meaningful context to the region’s development.
WACO Air Museum & Aviation Learning Center
Next, rise above the landscape. The WACO Air Museum honors the Weaver Aircraft Company, once the nation’s largest civil aircraft producer. The museum blends education with experience, and from April through October, guests can climb into “Sunny,” an open-cockpit WACO YMF-5 biplane. It’s a ride that delivers unmatched views and a taste of early aviation adventure.
Gale Halderman Mustang Museum
Wrap up your itinerary in Tipp City with a tribute to an American icon. Gale Halderman—designer of the original Ford Mustang—left behind a remarkable collection of drawings, photographs, awards, and memorabilia. This appointment-only museum offers an intimate look at the creativity and innovation that helped shape one of the most beloved cars in automotive history.
All of these destinations—and several others—are part of the Miami County History Pass. Explore, learn, and connect with places that have played a vital role in Ohio’s past. Get your pass at www.homegrowngreat.com.
