Where Everyone Belongs: Miami County Celebrates America 250

A Community Built on “We”

It takes a village to raise a child, but it takes a strong community to help build a nation. In Miami County, Ohio, that spirit runs deep. Here, there’s no “I”—only “we.” As America looks ahead to its 250th anniversary, Miami County proudly celebrates its place as a vibrant thread in the nation’s historic fabric.

“One of the most special things about Miami County isn’t just our history—it’s our people. It’s the way our communities come together, how our organizations collaborate, and how partnerships naturally form when something meaningful is happening,” said Miami County Visitors & Convention Bureau Executive Director Leiann Stewart.

For visitors and locals alike, Miami County’s America 250 celebrations invite everyone to experience the stories that shaped this corner of Ohio. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, an adventure seeker, or simply looking for inspiration for your next road trip, the county offers meaningful ways to connect the past with the present.

Stories That Bring History to Life

On May 9, the program Stories on the Stillwater – Underground Railroad brings history to life in downtown West Milton. Presented by Project Revival of West Milton, the event features live storytelling, interactive experiences, and entertainment reflecting the region’s Underground Railroad heritage. Volunteer actors and storytellers help illuminate this powerful chapter of local history.

Music, Festivals, and Community Celebration

Festivities continue on June 6 with the America 250 Concert at the Strawberry Festival at Troy Memorial Stadium, featuring Collective Soul and Grand Funk Railroad. Inspired by Troy’s legendary 2013 concert, city leaders are hosting a free celebration marking both the nation’s 250th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of the beloved Troy Strawberry Festival. Visitors can enjoy festival favorites during the day before gathering for an unforgettable evening of music and community pride.

Sweet Traditions and Shared Heritage

The celebration continues July 11–12 with the Red, White & Blue Ice Cream Social at Johnston Farm & Indian Agency in Piqua, where sweet treats and shared history bring families together in a uniquely American tradition.

“We’re proud of the people, the places, and the moments that define our history and continue to propel Miami County forward,” said Stewart. “By sharing these stories and celebrating this heritage, we aren’t just remembering the past—we’re carrying its legacy forward, generation after generation.”

May that legacy continue. Plan your visit at www.homegrowngreat.com and discover why in Miami County, everyone belongs.
