Whether flying down the waterslide to a splash landing or floating your way along in the lazy river, a waterpark is by far one of the best ways to have fun getting soaked. Maui Sands Resort and Indoor Waterpark is a 45,000 square foot indoor waterpark with a Hawaiian theme.
The largest attraction and by far one of the favorites is the Maui Wowie Bowl Slide where riders climb five sets of steps and board a large single or double inner tube to enter. A steep hill through the tube drops them down into the bowl which swirls riders around a few times before sending them through the exit tube to splash out at the bottom. While the climb to the top probably takes more time than the ride to the bottom, everyone agrees it is well worth it.
After a few slides into the bowl, you will want to try the Kana Storm and Hana Half Pipe body slides. These again require a climb to the top to enter twin slides which enable two people to race against each other to see who can reach the bottom first. Different pairings produce surprising results, although there is no surprise at the fun in competing against each other. Next, a relaxing ride on the Kai River is in order. Here again riders use an inner tube to float along the river which winds throughout the waterpark and under a bridge. This is a good chance for parents to take younger guests on an adventurous ride while keeping them close.
The 1200-square foot activity area known as Coconut Cove includes a swimming pool with water basketball hoops and a lily pad crossing for younger guests to test their balance. Pineapple Bay is an area for little tykes to splash in their own kiddie pool complete with a small slide. While Half Moon Lagoon is an indoor hot tub for all ages, there is also an “adults only” outdoor heated spa available.
There are numerous lounge chairs throughout the park, as well as tables and chairs to enjoy a poolside snack.
As far as dining, The Volcano Grill, which is located near the waterpark, offers pizza, hamburgers, wraps, salads, fries, ice cream and beverages. For more formal dining, the Black Sands restaurant offers full-service dining with an American/Polynesian themed menu. A hot breakfast buffet offers eggs, sausage, bacon, breakfast potatoes, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, an omelet station, cold cereals, juices, coffee and tea.
Maui Sands Resort offers numerous rooms and suites to accommodate every family. There are rooms with two queen beds as well as family suites with separate sleeping areas for children and parents.
