Some holiday happenings include community tree lightings, like the Pickerington Holiday Gathering, WinterFest in Downtown Lancaster, and more. These events include activities that are fun for all ages, like crafts, carols, and carriage rides. Each community celebrates the season in unique ways and invites you to join the fun.

If you need to take a break and warm up from the frosty air, try attending one of our Christmas productions. Theatre groups around Fairfield County offer chances to attend plays and musicals that tell stories of the holiday season.

Throughout December, don’t miss live performances of It’s a Wonderful Life (December 1-3) by The Lancaster Playhouse, Ohio University Lancaster Theatre, and The Garret Players or A Christmas Carol (December 9-11) by Rise Up Arts Alliance.

For other artistic ways to celebrate the holidays, check out the Crossroads Ministry Center and the Decorative Arts Center of Ohio in Lancaster. At Crossroads, you will find Fontanini figures and scenes on display from 6 to 9 pm every Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday in December.

These hand-painted figures are completed by several artists who specialize in different aspects (like hair, clothing, and facial expressions); the figures can take years to finish and the craftsmanship of each piece is truly outstanding. While visiting the exhibit, you will experience the sights, sounds, and smells of each scene. It is a unique and free experience.

The Decorative Arts Center of Ohio also offers a free way to enjoy the holidays. From November 5 to December 31, relive your childhood with two new exhibits: A Very Brady Holiday and A Storybook Christmas.

Explore the 1970s at the A Very Brady Holiday exhibit as the museum reproduces The Brady Bunch family’s iconic Christmas trees; there will also be displays of toys and gifts from the series and time period. Costumes from The Brady Bunch movies will also be on display and serve as the pinnacle of the Brady-inspired exhibit.

A Storybook Christmas features children’s books from 1850-2000 and Christmas trees decorated to reflect the themes and characters of each story.

A collection of pop-up books from the 1950s will surely be the highlight of this nostalgic exhibit.
