Ingredients:
Butter or olive oil
2 slices of good quality bread
1/3 to 1/2 cup shredded cheese*
(shredded cheese melts smoother, but 2-3 slices of cheese can be substituted for shredded)
1/2 of a Granny Smith apple, thinly sliced
*Try different types of cheese to suit your taste. Good choices are Cheddar, Swiss & Gouda.
Directions:
Heat a nonstick pan on medium-low heat. Butter one slice of bread and place it in the pan butter-side down. Add half of the shredded cheese. Add slices of apple and another layer of shredded cheese. Butter the other slice of bread and place on top of the cheese, butter-side facing out. Cook slowly on medium-low heat until golden brown. Flip when the cheese begins to melt and cook the other side until nicely toasted.
